Report Back On 27dinner Jozi Last Night
Last night marked the 44th iteration of the 27dinner social networking movement, held at FTV in Village Walk. With the dinners reaching unparalleled popularity (numbers peaking at 170+ on the attendance list at 27dinner.com), it is becoming increasingly challenging to organise and execute an event that now has some pretty high expectations around it in the geek community. All that considered I thought Melody Maker, who has made the event her own, did a pretty awesome job.
Thanks needs to go to eBucks who sponsored cocktails for all in attendance and gave an insightful talk on virtual currency, and also to our guest speaker Ronnie Apteker. The inimitable Toby Shapshak kindly offered up a pile of Stuff magazines for those in attendance, and it seemed fun was had by most.
I was quite disappointed in FTV as a venue (I paid R27 for a beer – ridiculous), and so we continue to search for the ideal venue. Your suggestions are welcome if you have any ideas!

Yes, I think the venue left something to be desired. I only got one cocktail before they closed the bar and the food was a bit scary looking. Vegetarian platters were seriously lacking in flavour. Considering the different backgrounds of attendees its important to ensure there’s something for everyone foodwise.
The talks were good though, I particularly enjoyed eBucks and virtual money. And also managed to snag a Stuff magazine before leaving so yay.
