Brewers & Union – The One Reason I’ll Move To Cape Town

B&U logoA couple of weeks back I received an email from Rui Esteves, a co-founder of Vida e Caffe, of which I am enormous fan. After the enormous success of Vida Rui has not rested on his laurels, instead choosing to reinvent the beer industry with the same passion and conviction he and his business partners brought to the ‘coffee shop’ vibe.

B&U experienceBrewers & Union is the result, and Rui’s email was an invitation to pop in to the new store in Heritage Square to sample his wares. Arriving there I was immediately struck at the characteristically stylish design, intoxicating ambiance and enthusiastic service. Rui and I shook hands across the main counter, where he stood dressed in what appears finely tailored B&U ‘uniforms’, leading by example. In a minute we were seated with menus and drinks on the way.

My goodness. I was expecting something good, but had no idea just how good it would be. I’m no beer connoisseur, but the combination of fine food and finely crafted lagers and ales that Rui presented to us with paternal affection were exquisite. I can’t wait to go back, and would highly recommend the experience to you too. Tell Rui I sent you :)

  1. & union is awesome!

if you’re missing the beer, you can order and purchase it here:

http://www.csg.store.co.za (I’m sure the brewers & union label will be available soon)

and in case you weren’t aware, http://www.store.co.za is a Durban based web start up which supplies templates and back-end for anyone who wants to set up online sales. Very clever. last time I checked it was R300 pm including hosting.

  5. This Brewer and Union is truly amazing. We chanced there on Saturday night, and an amazing 6 piece Jazz band was playing. Called the RESTLESS NATIVES, they place Jazz standards, in a traditional style.

The beers that are presented seem to be hand chosen by the owner, Rui, and bottled and labelled to his specification. The white and the dark are German. he also does the same with some wierd Portuguese beers. he has turned th whole beer experience on it’s head. he treats it like champagne, and presents it as such. the bottles are amazing, the presentation is slick, the glasses are lovely. It is a 100% quality experience, end to end

It is not cheap by SA standards, but when you throw in the excellent band ( no cover charge ), the free snacks, the wonderful experience, and all the interesting people, it is well worth it.

totally sold on this place, will make sure to go back soon.
