Father’s Day Nooma Surprise

I haven’t quite come to terms with the fact that Father’s Day is about me too.  At least not yet.  To me Father’s Day is still my dad’s day.  Fortunately my wife and son are sweet enough to remind me with the most incredible gifts and surprises.

This year Wendy got me something I was pretty thrilled about from the moment (Ethan and) I unwrapped it – two DVD episodes from Rob Bell’s Nooma series.

I’m a huge fan of Rob Bell’s stuff.  I recently read his acclaimed book Sex God and loved it – I appreciate his take on faith.  He is accessible but deeply challenging.  He also has the ability to translate complex issues and concepts using powerful metaphors (which the whole Nooma series is about) – in a way Rob is to Christianity what Lee LeFever is to social media. The videos are produced brilliantly with great soundtracks. There are 20 15 minute DVD’s in the Nooma series – I now have two and can’t wait to collect the rest.

Here’s a clip from my favourite Nooma vid (so far) – Dust. It’s on YouTube and there are a few others you can check out there (probably not legally, but as if…) If you’re a skeptic, I’d love your thoughts on his thinking / style… Let me know.

  1. Hey Mike, lucky you! I bought 5 of the DVD episodes with my winnings from some logo design compeition a couple years back. Favourite episodes are “Luggage” and “Rain”.

  2. Had a quick look at Rob Bell on YouTube. Looks fairly interesting, certainly breaks the mold for Christian speakers with an intellectual, subdued and academically interesting/diverse talk. I don’t have a huge interest in this genre but Bell may be worth a second look.
