The Little Dell That Could
This is an unbelievable story that Bronwyn Patten from Dell South Africa sent through to me the other day - thought you geekier types might appreciate it.
Geraldine bought her son a second-hand Dell Latitude laptop (see Dell’s most recent Inspiron range here). One day, in the interest of security, the young man left his precious gadget in the oven of their apartment before going down to the beach for a bit of fun.
Now I understand the logic in terms of an oven being the last place anyone would look to steal a laptop from, but eish, you’re getting how this could have an unhappy ending…
Well, it did and it didn’t. The bad news is that someone turned on the oven and ‘baked’ the laptop. The amazingly good news is that once it had cooled down the thing carried on working, thanks to a little bit of silicone, a lot of TLC and some patience with a rather wavy screen.
So who’s prepared to bake their Mac to see if it still works? ![]()

Your subtle Mac bashing is awesome. And your affinity with Dell is inspiring. Keep it up!
We’ve all seen or heard of willitblend.com.
So who’s up for setting up willitBake.com?
@Henre what!? I’m a Mac user… not bashing at all
Just leveraging the age-old rivalry
@Shaun it’s a plan - you register the domain and I’ll set up the site ha ha.
@Mike…ohh…thought you were a Dell boytjie. I do recall you being invited to some of their functions. Guess it got me confused.
Well ok then. Hell, I’m all willing and able to bake your Mac. When can I collect it?
Me!
