Ozzie Rugby Columnist Eats Humble Pie
You may remember my post on Friday, highlighting what I thought to be an arrogant and condescending piece by Australian columnist. How’s this screenshot I caught just after the English victory…

Hee hee.
This morning I went back to The Australian Online to see what Wayne Smith would be saying, if anything, in response to his attack of literary diarrhea just a few days ago.
His response is here.
I think trying to blame the build up to the World Cup is the wrong approach. Wayne Smith, like all great sporting nations, need to realise that World Cups, be they of cricket, soccer or rugby code, are decided on the spur of the moment due to one great moment, one bad call, one dodgy decision, and even then - only once every four years. Regardless of the preparation, it’s only what happens in those last 80 minutes in these final rounds that counts.
No wonder the players feel so much pressure. And as Jake White said to John Robbie this morning - you simply don’t understand that level of pressure until you’re in the hotseat. Pressure does funny things to players, and the results mean even weirder reactions from fans.
Ok, I promise my rugby posts will end soon… just give me some grace until the 20th… ![]()

Dunno if you’ve seen this one yet, but the Kiwi’s sure are sour!
