Bittersweet

I don’t believe it. I’m utterly gobsmacked. New Zealand lost to France.

Hold on, let me type that again. New Zealand lost to France.

On one hand, I feel like I used to feel Christmas Day at the age of nine, multiplied a hundredfold. On the other hand, I am quite sad for the Kiwis. This is a team of talented, skillful footballers. I know they have are called the chokers of Rugby Union (we share that dubious title for cricket), but I was convinced that at some stage the Law of Averages would have to take precedent?

But did they have the heart?

We could play England in the semi’s after all :)

Ok, so as promised, I’m back here to eat some humble pie. When the scores were level at 13 all, my legiance changed somewhat. (Yes I can). Suddenly it seems the French had the belief they could win it.

The exact thing Mike used to explain the Eng win over Australia is what the French used to send the Blacks packing. How stupid was I for going against that?

I was left with mixed emotions. Rugby just isn’t rugby without the Blacks. Nor without the host nation.

Surely, surely Fiji cannot win today? Forget law of averages, forget belief and heart and passion. Surely, talent and skill should prevail. No?
