Need USD5 Million?

Posted in Entrepreneurship, South Africa, Web 2.0 and Social Media

Got a great idea? Something that will help people use technology to find out what they want to know and what they need to know to improve their lives? Something that will bring people together in the real world through technology? Think it’s worth up to $5 million? Well then check out the Knight News Challenge.

From the site: “(The Knight foundation is) a national foundation with local roots. They choose, as their founders John S. and James L. Knight chose, to focus on journalism and communities. (They) invest in the vitality and improvement of quality journalism and community life.

Since its creation in 1950, Knight Foundation has invested nearly $315 million to advance journalism quality and freedom of expression.”

I recently got to meet Gary Kebbel, who administrates the Knight News Challenge on behalf of the foundation, through Ethan Zuckerman.

This is a mind-blowing opportunity for many of you out there who read this blog. If you are involved in a project that is appropriate to this challenge, I would get my entries in fast - the closing date is 10 October!

Good luck!
