Amazon’s service requires that you have a US Billing address to be able to legally download their mp3s (much like iTunes), so we are pretty much in the same boat as we were before.
The only difference is that it is much easier to lie to Amazon about your location (Beverley Hills, 90210) than to iTunes, who actually require a US or UK based credit card to purchase from their store.
Instead of using either of these services use Emusic (http://emusic.com), who sell drm free mp3’s via their subscription service at prices far, far cheaper than Amazon or iTunes, and it’s legal in SA. The only downside is that they are for indie labels only, so you won’t find major label songs on their site. Actually, to me that is probably an upside.
