Free For All At Feedburner, Courtesy Google

The Business 2.0 blog reports that Google has changed their recently acquired Feedburner service from a subscriptions model to an advertising only model. In other words, if you like me pay for Feedburner’s Pro services, you will no longer have to as all the Pro features will be part of the standard (altogether free) package.

B 2.0 says it best:

It’s all about the advertising now, folks. Google doesn’t need no stinking subscription revenues.

It’s a confident company that throws away it’s latest acquisition’s primary source of income for a completely different model.

Pretty normal thing for Google to do, considering that they did it with many of the companies that they purchased before. Picasa and Urchin (Google Analytics) come to mind, but I’m sure there are others.

I’m glad this happened, it will definitely push RSS ads into another league. I am dying to measure the performance of RSS advertising.
