Youth Day

On 16 June we celebrate Youth Day in South Africa – as we pay homage to the young revolutionaries who rose above the crowd to be exceptional, and paid dearly for their passion.

Many of you know that. What you don’t know, is that it will also be the launch date for the fourth edition of Press On (note that the website is built on Drupal – cool geeks too) magazine – a Christian youth magazine aimed at real, tangible information and resources for Christian living. Editor and manager of the publication is a good friend of mine, Nicki Dawson. She is all of 19 years old. She works for a record label, studies Media studies and is very involved in her community and runs programmes at her church. All this, and publishes a magazine that has a distribution of 1,500 readers. She makes me feel pretty lazy.

Bottom line, regardless of what your religious beliefs are, Nicki and others like her are incredible examples of the exception to the rule (or belief) regarding young people – that they’re lazy, reckless and expect everything to be handed to them on a plate. She is driven, passionate and motivated to the point where I look forward to having a cup of coffee with her ‘cos I know I’ll walk away challenged.

Nicki and her team need help. They need more readers, they need advertisers (at very, very reasonable rates) and they need a network of smart, connected people to learn from.

How can you help? Email me or Nicki (her contacts on her site) if you have any ideas…
