Learn From Me
A few days ago I was invited to blog at SAP’s SAPPHIRE event to be held in Vienna, Austria. The invitation was a wonderful opportunity and a cool reward for some hard work over the last while.
However, my joy soon turned to dismay when I realised that my passport had expired and that there was simply no way I was going to be able to organise to get stuff together on time (it is a pretty stringent process, even with a fully valid permanent passport). I’ve tried everything, and it isn’t going to happen. I’m such a tortoise.
If there’s ever a chance you may be asked to speak, blog, visit, work or whatever overseas, go and sort out as much admin as soon as possible so that you don’t land up having to embarrass yourself like me and miss out on an awesome opportunity.

Mike, I am going through a similar mess at the moment. In my case not a passport, since I noticed earlier this year mine is about to expire and got it renewed, but obtaining a Danish Visa. I was invited to Denmark for some talks and it is now almost a month that I am trying to get my Visa. First they got the dates wrong, how they managed to issue a Visa in the past only they know. Then they got the length wrong, I will still be in Denmark when it expired. Every time I have to postpone the trip, luckily the talks are not bound to a certain date. How frustrating ….
ouch mike. i’ve been patiently waiting for my passport to arrive until reading this, will call the powers that be on monday. miss TED global, i do not want to.
Jeepers creepers. Sorry to hear that Mikey. Darnit man.
