SA Blog Awards Logo – Make Your Cross!
Holy moly. I mentioned earlier this week the mind-blowing number of submissions for a logo for the 2007 Blog Awards, but let me say it loud and clear; we have a veritable plethora of relatively unseen talent here in South Africa. Sports, music, technical and artistic.
Just take a look once again at the incredible submissions in response to Quirk’s offer of an iTV, this time at Muti (where you can now vote for your fav submission – great collab between Quirk and Muti by the way). I’ve spent the last half hour torn trying to pick a favourite. I eventually settled on no. 69, pictured on the right. It was a really close call with no. 47 though.
Well done to all who contributed. If ever there was a business case for crowdsourcing, this is it. I mean, how much would it have cost Jon Cherry to pay for all these submissions? He did pretty well in the end
I’d like to suggest that we Saffas are proving that we have an exemplary contributory culture.

[...] Standing shoulder to shoulder with the legendary ZAblogging iconTertia, the muscular supercharged Stopforth blog, the clearly well-fed ElectricSpaghetti and Peas on Toast, the one all the girls will be voting for KykNoord, butt-ugly but potent 2OceansVibe that swept it all up last year again, the wildy popular Muso, TrashMedia that comes preloaded with their own merchandise!.. and then hey.. little miss low profile sitting at the table with all the beautiful people. (thank you voting angels xx) [...]

Hey Mike! Awesome choice that…
I too was torn between two logos (42 & 69) when voting yesterday, but eventually decided on 69 as well. A bit of arbness: 69 was my January 27 Dinner ticket number. See you at the March 27!

[...] I just had a chat with Vincent about the Awards debate and we pretty much came to the conclusion that the real cause for concern is probably (most likely) not the processes that were employed in the voting and judging stages but rather what was (or wasn’t) said about them. There are people who become concerned when there is less apparent transparency and when they voice those concerns they are not necessarily "whiney bastards" but, as Mike and/or Dave pointed out, their voice is important. For one thing, those "whiney bastards" are making a really good point. Blogs in South Africa are no longer only read by a couple geeks who don’t go out into sunlight much. More and more people are sitting up and paying attention to blogs and when we start flaming each other it makes the local blogosphere look immature and not nearly ready to sit with the grown-ups.
