The End Of Audioslave

Posted in Life, etc.

I’m a big fan of Audioslave. I never enjoyed Rage Against the Machine as much (apart from the few very angry songs I play on those days), but Audioslave is progressive, solid rock - satisfying to listen to most of the time thanks in the most part to Chris Cornell’s awesome vocals.

I was browsing YouTube while researching a totally arb subject and stumbled across an old Rage video. This prompted me to check out the Wikipedia article for Rage, which then got me reading about Audioslave.

Then the surprise - at the end of the Wikipedia article an announcement:

On February 15, 2007, Chris Cornell officially announced his departure from Audioslave, issuing this statement:

“Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors.”

No ways. I had no idea there were issues. Warranted, I don’t follow the band closely but they seemed to be on to something really good (and really profitable judging by their surge to fame and record sales).

Here’s another interesting fact - Chris Cornell is currently recording a solo album (Carry On) with none other than Steve Lillywhite, the genius behind the production of the first three Dave Matthews Band studio albums (DMB just happens to be my all-time fav group).

The last highlight of this morning’s surf was this video from a recent leftist ‘Axis of Justice’ concert which featered the likes of Flea, Brad Wilk, Tom Morello, Pete Yorn, Tim Walker, Serj Tankian, Maynard James Keenan and Jonny Polonsky. Quite an ensemble. They do U2’s Where The Streets Have No Name:

So some sad news, some interesting discoveries, and damn, I love the Web.

Finally if you’re a fan of innovative electric guitar sounds, check out Tom Morello at his best (yeah Chris can sing a little too):

“No great loss….MY A**!!!” Audioslave had a very beautiful thing going on. They were not a band for very long but they certainly had just as much potential as Rage Against the Machine or Soundgarden did. Zach De La Rocha’s vocals compared to Chris Cornell’s?….C’mon man! No contest.

    Guys

Chris Cornell is the best vocal in the world. And Audioslave was the best band in the last years.
I´m sad, so I would like one day can show the Audioslave concert in my Country. Chris Cornell, if one day you read this message, think about this and return. You are the best.
