My Brand New Dell Inspiron. For R 570 (USD80)
Forget the $100 laptop - I prefer the R 570 counterpart from Dell…
The ever-intrepid Mr Kleynhans has picked up what can only be a nasty glitch on the Dell South Africa e-commerce site. You can buy an entry level Inspiron for only R 570! (the shipping charges). Somehow the price of the actual unit remains at zilcho throughout the purchase process. Eina for Dell. Nice for us.
So mosey on over to Dell and pick up new laptop for yourself. They have to honour the purchase price (I think). Also, please Digg the story if you’re game.

Thanks for the tip - I also ordered myself a Dell Inspiron 9400 for R570.
Ordered one as well, shot Mike.
Do you really think they HAVE to honour this?? I have just bought one but I can see this all ending in big trauma!

Well I think that there are some interesting arguments coming the way of Dell. The price seems to have been changed (or I’m just not savvy enough to find the thing). It now sits at just over R5,500. I missed the boat. Story of my life I’m beginning to notice!
Thanks for the heads up, all digged and hopefully the story is rising!
Yeah I got one but I really don’t think Dell will have the proverbial balls to honour it. If you read their “Receipt” it clearly says you will receive “your order confirmation within five business days of our receipt of your order”. I reckon I’ll get a polite email back from Dell saying my order was rejected.
According to colleagues here a similar story happened with John Lewis a big national UK chain overturning internet orders because of a glitch on their website.
We’ll see.
I also placed my handy order as Henk blogged it.
2 things:
1) A colleuge called a friend who works at Dell SA, and asked about it. There was a bit of laughing goign on on the background, but they guy said they probably wouldn’t deliver it, “but place the order anyway”
2)On their site they have a terms of use at the bottom. The first point says this:

Nice cheap laptop
[...] Phew. What a story. Since Henk IM’d me earlier to tell me about Dell’s generous gesture (read: glitch-of-note) things have exploded. The entire South African blogosphere has been buzzing all afternoon about “Dell Hell Heaven” (nothing like Jeff’s experience). [...]
“The page you requested may no longer exist on Dell.com”
Nice story… but. I don’t think they are legally obliged to honour the purchase price. From my law student days I remember a case of a guy who advertised some kind of product at 1c, just to get people in the store. He got sued and won. Apparently the price displayed is an “invitation to conduct business”, not a purchase price so to speak… It set a precedent back in 19voetsek and I don’t think it’s been overturned. Will get a lawyer mate onto this and see…
No suprise here, but its Monday and I’m too bloody late
I need some prices for dell desktops, whats the email address of your sales team
[...] I’ve never owned a Dell laptop but made a bit of noise a while back when Henk discovered Dell laptops for sale on their website at R 0.00. To cut a long story short the blogosphere spread the message of the error pretty fast, boosting [...]
