New Theme

Design guru Mark Forrester has helped me put together a new theme for the site, as opposed to the generic one I was using.

Please give feedback in the comments section – would love to hear your views, good and bad.

    Congrats! Looks awesome!
I would suggest making your name clickable so that people who land on a particular article can get back to your main page easily.

Hey Dave, your to quick for us :)

Working on that right this very moment!

    Very nice indeed.

Goes a bit weird at the bottom of the home page – article over-writing the other stuff – but I’m sure you’re working on that too!

Wow, nice work! Definite improvement on the template from before.

As well as turning the name into a link, perhaps a ‘Home’ button wouldn’t hurt either? To some, clicking on the header to get back to the home page might not be intuitive.

I also feel that the green box on the top right stands out a little too much – it’s not very important in the scheme of things, after you read it the first time. Maybe drop the contrast a bit by using a lighter green or something?

Otherwise, I really like the colour scheme.

Thanks for the positive feedback Chris, some nice ideas.

What you think Mike? Drop the contrast?

  6. Mike 18 December 2006 at 2:13 pm #

I reckon we drop the box altogether, dude. There’s an About Page, so we don’t need an about box.

  7. Mark 18 December 2006 at 2:16 pm #

    RIP little box

  8. Marc Forrest 18 December 2006 at 2:23 pm #

    Very very nice peeter !!!

I like it, a lot. V funky. Least fave part is the size of the date button thingy. Too bold. Should either be smaller or less orange. I dont know. but its the first thing that catches my eye. too much. does that make sense?

  10. Mark 18 December 2006 at 3:29 pm #

    Defintely a valid point Tertia.

I know Mike likes the orange date box, but we could always play with it if he changes his mind :)

  11. Mike 18 December 2006 at 3:33 pm #

The date box stays – LOL

    looks great

    Wicked.

    Love the colour.

The only thing I would’ve done differently would’ve been to use .GIFs or PNGs for the three top-of-page buttons (instead of slightly-blurry JPGs). Then again, I’m a crisp-freak who’s obsessed with compression algorithms, and probably the only one who noticed!

  16. Martin 18 December 2006 at 4:32 pm #

    Oops…

OK, I was too quick on the draw. It looks like you saved the text as JPG as some stage (which caused the blurriness, and can be easily solved by re-rendering and saving the GIFs). That’s all, please shoot me for being such a pedant!

  17. Mark 18 December 2006 at 4:36 pm #

Haha. Thanks Martin. I will do that especially for you.

    Completely understand your point :)

  18. Mike 18 December 2006 at 4:46 pm #

Thanks Martin! I really appreciate the feedback guys.

I like it Sid (how many of you know the origins of Mike’s nickname?).

I’d like to see your sidebar a little more compact … in fact perhaps the whole typeface things as well. I find my eyes distracted by the spaces between (no DMB-pun intended)

Wow Martin, seems you have a real eye for talent.

    Looks great
