Firefox Goes Mainstream
Firefox ran a campaign a while back (www.firefoxflicks.com) during which they encouraged evangelists to submit videos online of why they loved using the free, open source web browser. The goal: “To help increase awareness of Firefox among this target audience, Mozilla would like to produce a high-quality, innovative 30-second ad that introduces Firefox to mainstream Web users.”
The campaign was an enormous success. Now the folks at Mozilla are taking the next step in their attempt to compete directly with Internet Explorer 7 and put Firefox firmly on the map by screening a selection of those user-generated Firefox ads on television.
From Read/Write Web: “The theme of the ads is that Firefox is “the safest, fastest and most enjoyable way to experience the Web.” The ads are also partly sponsored by Firefox fans – and Mozilla will insert the names of those sponsors at the end of each commercial.”
Richard MacManus has also included an interview with one of the Mozilla directors, Asa Dotzler in the article – well worth the read.
Keep it coming guys!
