Exactly How Stupid is Kevin Rose?
The Web is all of a flutter with news of Kevin Rose ’slipping up’ about the rumoured Apple iPhone in a diggnation videocast. Crunchgear helped the hysteria somewhat.
Exactly how stupid do they think he is? Fair enough, everybody’s saying he was drunk in the podcast (and yes, beer-drinking is an integral part of what makes diggnation so popular), but I don’t care how drunk you are, there’s some things you don’t say. It doesn’t matter how drunk I am, I’m not going to whisper into my wife’s ear how much I’d like to jump the waitress. Not going to happen.
Kevin Rose knew exackery what he was saying. He built up the scene and broke the ’secret’ knowing full well the response it would get - the furore it would create. Digg is the Web’s no. 1 social bookmarking hub - my Aston Martin post hit the digg front page last week and the resultant traffic shut me down for hours. Kevin knows this (of course) and so does Apple. With MacWorld coming up in January, could there possibly be a better time to ignite some serious discussion, debate and controversy around the product EVERYONE is waiting for? Come ON!!!!
This was set up and orchestrated perfectly. Kevin Rose ain’t stoopid. You don’t get to be worth $60 million being stoopid.
Sometimes the wisdom of the crowd is altogether absent.

Kevin isn’t stupid, he asked the person before he put it online otherwise he would have edited it out because diggnation is not live and they do have bloopers for them.
Thanks Chris. Next time read the whoooole post.

Staged? Probably
Does anyone care? No.
Listen to Kevin being interviewed on net@nite 5 (http://www.twit.tv/itn) on Sunday night (3rd Dec). He seems genuinely remorseful and again blames the alcohol - or he’s a great actor.
Leo also revisits Kevin’s outing of the Nano - to the last exact detail. So, regardless if it was staged - look forward to the phone being announced in Jan.
There is also a great spec ad on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5qGn7kIkMA) that shows what it could be like. Judging from the comments - Apple should just use that as the phone design and ad campaign.
