Mail & Guardian Launches Podcast
Matt Buckland notified me earlier today that the Mail & Guardian Online has launched a weekly podcast - showing once again that they are keen to push the boundaries of MSM (mainstream media) and adopt new social vehicles for engaging readers (and in this case listeners).
From the site:
Between the pages, with Tony Lankester
Well-known South African broadcaster Tony Lankester brings you a weekly Mail & Guardian podcast that focuses on the main news stories of the week as reported in the M&G newspaper and on the M&G Online. The show includes insightful commentary on the news and no-holds-barred interviews with people in the news and M&G journalists.
I’m in the process of downloading my first episode - looking forward to enjoying this as a weekly installment. M&G have done what few competitors have done well by explaining comprehensively their reasons for including a podcast, and ways for non-techie’s to get used to the idea of podcasting. They’ve explained the terms really accessibly - not taking for granted that readers will know what the heck a podcast is. Nice one.

That’s a great step in the right direction for open media.
I look forward to seeing a South African podcast become more popular than a commercial radio show one day!
hey thanks for the encouraging words… I don’t know where its going to go… but we are giving it a try and you never know … it might just prove to be a hit among readers!!
