Afrihost – Supreme Service
I’d heard good things about Afrihost – that they were clued up, efficient and affordable. We live in a globalised, commodotized world where it is more and more difficult to differentiate yourself on products alone. Service and brand personality are key benchmarks.
From day one, Afrihost exceeded my expectations. They are so helpful it’s almost painful. The registration process is painless and they speak non-geek, which is a breath of fresh air.
I recently had to cancel my Afrihost accounts, not for any reason other than (ouch – MacBook shocking me!) someone else is hosting for me for free, and I was blown away by their continued support and helpfulness. These guys are the shiz, and I would highly recommend them for any hosting solution, large or small.
Bru, you get way too much free stuff.. tell me your secret!
Local is lekker for sure, but keep in mind that the international guys can offer you more for less. I started out with Host4Africa, who got the job done just fine, but after switching to Bluehost a few months ago I haven’t looked back.
For US$7/month (a bit less than Afrihost’s R65 entry level option) I get 6 domains, 15 GB of web space, 2500 mail accounts, 100 databases, and the list goes on. Their support over e-mail is great, and if I wanted phone support there’s always Skype.
Just another recommendation from another happy customer :)
What do you mean, “Ouch MacBook shocking me?”
Hee hee hee.
Chris – I also use MediaTemple, which is very good. I would like to support the local blokes as much as possible.
IITQ – the Mac I’m using is not nicely grounded. Carl Spies thinks it’s just me, but I’m convinced I’m not Powder. Anyways, it was shocking me midway through that post so thought I’d share it with the world.
I’m not an Afrihost fan – I found their advertising misleading, the costs exhorbitant and their systems antiquated.
Godaddy does it for me.
Hey Mike!
Thanks for the resounding post and vote of confidence! I’m always delighted to hear that we got something right :)
Thanks again.
To “Antiquated Afrihost” (Rob) I’m sorry to hear that you are not a fan – I see you posted this a while ago and I know I’ve been in contact with you since so I hope your feelings don’t still apply!
If they do please let me know – I know that we now have an instant DNS control panel (the system you were upset about) which should sort you out 100%
And thanks again Mike – I sincerely appreciate your kudos!

I’m with Afrihost and the service was fantastic, but lately all I have is problems with them and they don’t always come back to me when I have problems. Thinking of maybe canceling my account with them
