Connecting and Learning
In reflecting on a year’s worth of entrepreneurial adventure, without a shadow of doubt the highlight has been connecting with a diverse network of informed and passionate human beings through technology. This blogging thing (together with other nifty social software tools) has been the catalyst and ‘middle man’ for a truckload of exciting new relationships, synergies and conversations.
I’ve connected with Harvard Business School profs, hunters of genius, innovators and creators (hey, I might have a yourname.com but it appears Vincent Maher has a Wikipedia entry - I have been redeemed). I’ve met smart marketing minds, CEO’s, phenomenal communicators and sickening wads of talent. I learn more day to day from these incredible people than I did in a month stuck behind a desk in a ‘real job’ (no offense to those of you stuck behind a desk in a real job). And it gets better all the time.
Yesterday I forged a new connection with an abnormally clever person called Carl Spies. He describes himself as a systems thinker, meta-coach and design acolyte (Max you gonna love him). He’s also a fundamentally nice person, which counts for a lot too. I have a feeling in my waters that Carl and I are going to blaze new territory together - watch this space.
Two nifty resources Carl introduced me to yesterday - we were discussing branding and he pointed my to the 22 Immutable Laws of Branding, which I quite liked, and also an excellent article on the difference between cooperation, coordination and collaboration. Thanks Mr. Spies.
Moral is: Get connected!
