Andrew’s Comrades Journey

Posted in Life, etc., South Africa

I’m one of those wannabe South African’s who desperately wants to run the Comrades Marathon, but will probably never ever get around to it. If I ever do, I’d like to make a half decent effort and finish under ten hours, but for this long drink of water it’ll take some training and a shipload of discipline.

I met a chap called Andrew Smit this last week. He’s a data analyst (if I recall correctly) for IncuBeta, and all-round nice person. Andrew has decided to run the Comrades next year, and is journalling his ‘road’ there via a blog.

This blog will do well. Andrew is telling a great story, he writes very well and has all the right practical elements in place. We need more blogs like this one for ‘non-techie’ folk to learn from, interact with and enjoy.

Well done Andrew and I look forward to watching you cross the line in personal victory in 2007.

If you have a great story like Andrew’s to tell, and want to do it with a blog, let me know and I’ll gladly help you set it up.

[...] I was very surprised to get mentioned in a speech by Jon Cherry from Cherryflava, thanks Jon! It was great to meet several very interesting people there, including Mike Stopforth. Mike has some kind words about this blog to say, and I can only hope that this blog will inspire him one day to complete the comrades. [...]
