The Essence of Business Blogging
Miguel and Rafiq continue to suprise me with great references and exciting new content. They are explorers unparalleled. One such recent addition to my reading list is a post entitled The Sudden School of Zen: The Essence of Business Blogging taken from Stowe Boyd’s Freshbooks Blog (as an aside, this blog has to be one of the nicest designs I’ve seen in ages – very, very cool).
The post is aimed more at entrepreneurial types who are either trying to make a business out of blogging or use blogging to market their existing ventures, but Stowe has some nice points in there that apply to enterprise blogging too. Some highlights:
What is it that is common across all users of the Web? Obviously, it is not demographics, or geography, or even the proximal motivation for being on line: some are old, some young; some are here, some there; some are looking at car reviews, others are reading about Indonesian tsunamis. But everyone online is looking for something. An answer to a
problem, a local tapas bar, or a date. Everyone online is involved in a journey of discovery.
Whether you are a caterer, an accountant, a lawyer, interior decorator,
or a landscape architect, you can validate your knowledge and insights on a blog.
Stowe goes on to list five key characteristics of successful business blogs. Not wanting to steal his thunder, I’d suggest you go check them out for yourself.
